1. PM Narendra Modi launched Born Again on the Mountain by Arunima Sinha
i) Prime Minister Narendra  Modi on 12 December 2014 launched a book tittled Born Again on the Mountain by Arunima Sinha.
ii) She is the first Indian amputee and first female amputee to climb Mount Everest.
iii) The book is about her unforgettable story of hope, courage and resilience.
iv) She was a national level volleyball player who was pushed out of a running train by thieves in 2011 as she attempted to fight them off.

2. Anerood Jugnauth appointed as Mauritius Prime Minister
i) Anerood Jugnauth was appointed as Mauritius Prime Minister by the President Purryag on fourteen December 2014.
ii) With this, he became the Prime Minister of Mauritius for the sixth time following success of his alliance in Mauritius elections 2014.
iii) Jugnauth replaced Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam of Labour Party, who resigned as the Prime Minister on thirteen December 2014.

3. Japan teens Mima Ito and Miu Hirano became youngest table tennis champions
i) Fourteen year-olds Mima Ito and Miu Hirano on Saturday became the youngest ever winners at the $1 million table tennis World Grand Finals in Bangkok.
ii) The schoolgirls took the women`s doubles title, beating Natalia Partyka and Katarzyna Grzybowski of Poland 11-7, 11-6, 11-4, 11-5, to claim a $40,000 share of the prize money.

4. Telugu music director Chakri passes away
i) Noted Telugu music director Chakri (40) passed away early this morning in a private hospital. He was shifted to the hospital after he suffered a massive heart attack. He directed about 85 films, including some blockbuster flicks.
ii) Chakri hailed from Warangal district and began his career with Puri Jagannath's Bachi.The Chief Minister of Telangana, K Chandrasekhara Rao, and the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu, condoled the death of the music director.

5. China approves $18 bn worth of new road projects
i) China's economic planner has approved the construction of 112 billion yuan ($18.1 billion) of new roads in the latest government effort to increase investment and support the slowing economy.
ii) The five projects are located in China's southern and central region and provinces of Guangxi, Guangdong and Sichuan, the National Development and Reform Commission said on its website.

6. South African woman wins Miss World beauty pageant in London
i) South African beauty Rolene Strauss was today crowned Miss World 2014 at a glittering ceremony in London as India’s Koyal Rana lost out, finishing in the top 10.
ii) Miss Hungary, Edina Kulcsar, was the runner-up in the contest and Miss United States, Elizabeth Safrit, came in third as an estimated billion viewers watched the finale on television around the globe.
iii) Priyanka Chopra was the last Indian winner of the coveted title in 2000.

7. Jayawardene to bid final goodbye to home ODIs on Dec 16
i) Making it obvious that he will retire after the 2015 World Cup, former Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene today revealed on social media that the seventh and final ODI against England tomorrow will be his last at home turf.
ii) “Going for my last practice session with the boys at home. Going to have some fun,” the 37-year-old tweeted this morning.
iii) His indication of retirement after the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand came just two days after his best friend and teammate Kumar Sangakkara bade farewell to his fans in Kandy the last time he was playing an ODI at his hometown.
iv) In the post match press conference, Sangakkara said he was to retire after the World Cup.
v) Jayawardene, who retired from Test cricket in August, is to play in the seven match ODI series in New Zealand leading to the World Cup starting February 14.
vi) Sangakkara however has not made his plans clear for his immediate Test future.
vii) Jayawardene has just two half-centuries in the current series, having skipped the third game on account of his daughter’s first birthday.

8. Germany beat Pakistan 2-0 to bag Champions Trophy title
i) Olympic champions Germany clinched the Hero Champions Trophy title with a convincing 2-0 win over Pakistan in the summit clash, snapping their five-year old jinx in the elite eight-nation event at the packed Kalinga Stadium, here today.
ii) Germany last won the Champions Trophy in 2007 edition in Kuala Lumpur and came close to the title two years later in Melbourne but ended second best, losing to Australia.

9. Steve Smith becomes Australia’s 45th Test captain
i) Young all-rounder Steve Smith was today named Australia’s captain for the second cricket Test against India, replacing an injury-ravaged Michael Clarke who is unlikely to play in the remaining matches of the ongoing series.
ii) “Cricket Australia has announced that Steven Smith has been appointed vice-captain of the Australian Test team effective immediately and will captain the Australian side in the absence of Michael Clarke,” CA said in a statement.

10. Sydney cafe siege
Five hostages have reported to have escaped from a Sydney cafe besieged by a gunman during Monday morning rush hour, according to local media.The Lindt cafe in the city centre is surrounded by armed police. Officers have made contact with the gunman.
The remaining hostages – who include men and women but no children -- are being ordered to stand with their hands against the windows in rotations, 7NEWS reported.
Police say no one injured; motive of unshaven gunman with possible pump-action shotgun remains unknown.
