1.  India, Iran signed inter-Governmental MoU for development of Chabahar Port
i) India and Iran on 6 May 2015 signed an inter-Governmental Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development of the strategically important Chabahar Port in Iran.
ii) The MoU was signed in Tehran by Minister for Shipping and Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and Iranian Minister for Transport and Urban Development Abbas Ahmad Akhoundi.

Features of this inter-Governmental MoU
 I) The MOU facilitates Indian and Iranian commercial entities to commence negotiations for finalization of a commercial contract.
 II) Under the contract, Indian firms will lease two existing berths at the Port and operationalize them as container and multi-purpose cargo terminals.

2.  Goa CM launches Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme in Panaji
i) Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar in the presence of Women and Child Develoment Minister Dilip Parulekar launched the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Scheme in the state.
ii) North Goa district of the state is among 100 districts selected from across the country to implement the central government's scheme on pilot basis with an objective of the scheme to empower the girl child and educate her.
iii) After launching the scheme, Mr Parsekar urged the society to invest more on girl child basically in the field on education as the girls give more fruits to the society and family.

3.  Oscar Holderer, the US moon rocket expert, died
i) The last known surviving member of the German engineering team that came to the United States and designed the rocket that took astronauts to the moon has died.
ii) Oscar Carl Holderer died Tuesday at age 95 in Huntsville, Alabama. Son Michael Holderer says his father suffered a stroke last week and didn't recover.
iii) The German-born Holderer came to the United States in 1945 with a group of rocket engineers led by Wernher von Braun.
iv) Holderer says his father worked in several areas and designed the wind tunnel that was used to develop Saturn. Holderer retired from NASA in 1974.

4. Paytm tied-up with CCD, Domino’s for offline payment
i) Alibaba-backed company Paytm tied-up with Quick service restaurants (QSRs) Domino’s and Cafe Coffee Day for offline payment. With this acquisition, Paytm's mobile wallet will soon be accepted at Domino’s and Cafe Coffee Day.
ii) This tie-up came when Paytm is foraying into the offline retail space. At present, Paytm offers and recharge services for DTH and mobile phone services as well as mobile wallet services for online transactions on Uber, Bookmyshow, eBay and IRCTC.
iii) This offline service will be available by mid-June. By going offline, Paytm will offer customers the choice to pay through a secure and reliable platform.

5. Indian Cabinet Approves Amendments to Whistleblowers Act
i) The Union Cabinet has approved amendments in the Whistle Blowers Protection Act, 2011 to keep issues of national security out of its purview.
ii) Decision in this regard was taken at Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
iii) The amendments accepted by the Union Cabinet to the parent Act are done with a view to incorporate necessary provisions that aim at strengthening safeguards against disclosures.
iv) The amendment in the parent Act will strengthen the safeguards against disclosures which may prejudicially affect the sovereignty and integrity of the country and security of the state.It also safeguards against disclosures which may affect strategic, scientific or economic interest of the state, relations with a foreign state or that leads to incitement of an offence.
About Whistle Blowers Protection Act, 2011
I) It establishes a mechanism to investigate alleged cases and register complaints on any allegations of corruption or wilful misuse of power against a public servant
II) The Act also provides safeguards against victimisation of the person who makes the complaint and gives statutory protection to whistle blowers in the country.

6.  Huge Lava Lake Spotted on Jupiter's Moon Io
i) An extremely powerful telescope on Earth has revealed in detail a huge lava lake on Io - the innermost of the four moons of Jupiter discovered by Italian scientist and scholar Galileo (Galilei) in 1610.
ii) Io is the most geologically active body in our solar system. Hundreds of volcanic areas dot its surface, which is mostly covered with sulphur and sulphur dioxide.
iii) Named Loki after the Norse god often associated with fire and chaos, the volcanic feature is called a patera. This is a lava lake with thick lava crust solidified onto it.

7. Essel Group confirms plan to set up rival T20 cricket league
i) The Subhash Chandra-owned Essel Group has confirmed its plans to set up a rival Twenty20 cricket league by including leading players from around the world to participate in the cash-rich event.
ii) After Chandra's ambitious ICL failed to cut much ice post strong opposition from the BCCI, the media magnate is once again to trying to make his company's foray into the lucrative world of cricket and probably give IPL stiff competition, reported the Sydney Morning Herald.
iii) It has been two weeks since reports of the registration of company names by the Essel Group in cricket-playing nations - in Australia they registered the company Australian Cricket Control Pty Ltd - sparking concerns about a breakaway organisation and leading to an ICC investigation.
