1.  Vocalist Sanjay Subrahmanyam selected for ‘Sangita Kalanidhi’ award 2015
i.
One of the foremost south Indian classical vocalists, Sanjay Subrahmanyam has been selected for the ‘Sangita Kalanidhi’ award 2015.
ii. It will be bestowed upon him when he will preside over the 89th annual conference of the Academy which will be held between December 15, 2015 and January 1, 2016.
iii. With this, he is seventh artistes to be conferred with the award before completing 50 years of age. Others are Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar, Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer, Musiri Subramania Iyer, G.N. Balasubramaniam, Semmangudi R. Srinivasa Iyer, M.L. Vasanthakumari and M. Balamuralikrishna



2. Nico Rossberg of Mercedes wins Austrian Grand Prix of F1
i. Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg from Germany has won the Austrian Grand Prix Formula One (F1) World Championship title.
ii. It is Rosberg’s eleventh overall championship title and the third win in the 2015 season. First was the Spanish Formula 1 World Championship title won on May 10, 2015 and second was Monaco Grand Prix on May 24, 2015.
iii. Nico Rosberg had also won the Austrian Grand Prix of 2014 season which was maiden win for Mercedes on this track.

3. Taliban capture Dasht-e-Archi district of Kunduz province in northern Afghanistan
i. Taliban militants have captured Dasht-e-Archi district of Kunduz province in northern Afghanistan after heavy fighting with local security forces.
ii. It is the second district captured by Taliban in the northern Kunduz province which borders Tajikistan. Earlier on 20th June 2015 the militants had captured Chardara district of this province.
iii. It should be noted the internal conditions in Afghanistan has worsened in the past few months. Even Afghan forces have struggled to fend off Taliban advances since US and NATO combat mission officially concluded their missions.

4. Roger Federer wins eighth Halle Open ATP title of Tennis in Germany
i. World number two Roger Federer has won the Halle Open ATP title in Germany. In the final match he defeated Andreas Seppi of Italy by 7-6, 6-4 score.

ii. It was Federer’s eighth Halle Open ATP title after he had won in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2013 and 2014. It was also his fourth title of the season 2015 after Brisbane, Dubai and Istanbul and overall 86th title of his career.
iii.  It was also his 15th career title on grass. In the Men’s Doubles Halle Open ATP title, Raven Klaasen (South Africa) and Rajeev Ram (US) pair defeated Rohan Bopanna (India) and Florin Mergea (Romania) pair by 6-7, 2-6 score.

5.  China opens Nathu La border post as 2nd route for Kailash-Mansarovar yatra
i. China has opened 2nd land border crossing in Tibet via Nathu La, Sikkim to allow the Indian pilgrims for Kailash-Mansarovar yatra. The new route is in addition and alternative to the existing Lipulekh Pass route located in Uttarakhand which was only route earlier.
ii. This route was damaged in the devastating Uttarakhand floods in 2013. The border crossing at Nathu La is located 4,000 metres above sea level. This route will facilitate comfortable travel for Indian pilgrims by buses compared to previous route.
iii. By this route, pilgrims will be travell by bus to Shigatse in the Tibet Autonomous Region, around 1500 kms away from Nathula to reach their ultimate destination the Kailash–Mansarovar. It should be noted that the opening of this route was officially announced during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to China in May 2015.


6. International Yoga Day: Stamps, coins and commerce
i. The government of India has released stamp s and coins of the denomination of Rs.10 and Rs.100 on International Yoga Day (IYD) on June 21.
ii.The Department of Posts is bringing out stamp and the finance ministry coins.
iii. Also, on IYD, the Discovery Channel has telecasted a short film 'The Story of Yoga' to take viewers through a journey of rediscovering the Indian ancient practice.

7. National vendor development programme in Bengaluru
i. Peenya Industrial Assocation (PIA) will hold PIA: Expo 2015 - National Vendor Development Programme at Bengaluru from June 25-27.
ii. Peenya Industrial Complex is one of the biggest industrial complexes housing about 8,500 MSMEs and spread over an area of 45 sq. km. It is surrounded by a dozen peripheral industrial estates, employing about 8.5 lakh people, out of which about four lakh are women employees.
iii. This year’s PIA Expo:2015 is being held held at Dr Prabhakar Kore Convention Center, Yeshwanthpur, Bengaluru.
