1. Suresh Kalmadi conferred with Asian Athletics Association President’s award
Scam-tainted Suresh Kalmadi has been conferred with the Asian Athletics Association President’s award for his contribution towards the development of athletics in the continent.
ii. Kalmadi, who was jailed and later released on bail in connection with the 2010 Commonwealth Games scam, served as president of AAA for 13 years from 2000 to 2013 and was also credited with the introduction of top events like Asian Grand Prix series, Asian Indoor Championships and Asian All Star Meet, besides other competitions.
iii. He was named Life President of the AAA in its council meeting in Jakarta in March for his contribution for Asian athletics.
iv. Athletics Federation of India President Adille Sumariwala received the award on behalf of Kalmadi from AAA President Dahlan Al-Hamad of Qatar at the function held last night ahead of the start of Asian Athletics Championships.
v. Al-Hamad had defeated Kalmadi in the presidential elections of the AAA in Pune in 2013.

2. Jharkhand Cabinet approved Jharkhand Special Courts Ordinance, 2015
  The Jharkhand cabinet today approved Jharkhand Special Court Ordinance-2015 which is aimed at filing cases against those who are involved in disproportionate assets case.
ii. A decision in this regard was taken in the meeting of the state cabinet which was held at the project building here Chief Minister Raghubar Das said it is the pledge of the government to make Jharkhand corruption free."
iii. There are several cases before the vigilance bureau where people have used corrupt and illegal ways and have accumulated wealth more than their known sources of income," he said, adding there are so many corruption related cases pending in the courts that it would consume a lot of time in arriving on a judgement on them.

3. Syed Asif Ibrahim appointed as PM’s Special Envoy on Countering Terrorism and Extremism
i. Syed Asif Ibrahim was on 3 June 2015 appointed as the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy on Countering Terrorism and Extremism. He is a former Director of Intelligence Bureau (DIB).
ii. In this new capacity, he will liaise with governments in West Asia, Afghanistan, Pakistan and South East Asia, among others, in setting up channels for the exchange of intelligence and information on terror groups.
iii. The appointment took place in the back drop of growing concern over probable poaching of some Indian youth by Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) and other militant groups operating in Syria and Iraq.
iv. Syed Asif Ibrahim was a 1977 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre and retired in December 2014.

4. Inderjeet won gold in shot put at 21st Asian Athletics Championships
Inderjeet Singh became only the eighth Indian shot putter to win a gold medal in the history of Asian championships.
ii. Inderjeet Singh bagged a gold medal in men’s shot put event as India opened the medal account on the first day of the 21st Asian Athletics Championships .
iii. Inderjeet, a silver medallist in 2013 World University Games and a bronze medal winner in last year’s Asian Games in Incheon, clinched the gold by heaving the iron ball to a new championship record of 20.41m, which he achieved in his fourth attempt.
iv. The 27-year-old left-handed Haryana shot putter, who has already qualified for next year’s Rio Olympic Games, thus became only the eighth Indian shot putter to win a gold medal in the history of Asian championships, joining Jagraj Singh (1973), Bahadur Singh (1975), Balwinder Singh (1985 and 1989), Shakti Singh (2000), Navpreet Singh (2007) and Om Prakash Singh Karhana (2009).

5. Delhi slaps 15-day ban on sale of Maggi noodles
i. Instant noodles brand Maggi got into more trouble on Wednesday after the Centre lodged a complaint with the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission against the Indian arm of the Swiss manufacturer, Nestle, and the Delhi government imposed a 15-day ban on sale of the product.
ii. Several States, including Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, West Bengal and Odisha, have sent samples of the product for testing, while the Jammu and Kashmir government has advised people not to eat Maggi noodles till the test results are out.
iii. The Army and Navy have issued advisories to their canteens to set aside the existing stocks of the popular snack until further orders.

6. Djokovic dethrones Nadal in a one-sided ‘El Claysico’

i. Novak Djokovic crushed nine-time champion Rafael Nadal 7-5, 6-3, 6-1 to move into the French Open semifinals on Wednesday, condemning the great Spaniard to just his second defeat in 72 matches at Roland Garros.
ii. It was world No. 1 and top seed Djokovic’s first win over defending champion Nadal in seven meetings in Paris, avenging his defeats in the 2012 and 2014 finals.
iii. It also eased Djokovic, who fired 45 winners to Nadal’s 16, closer to a first French Open title and the completion of a career Grand Slam.

7.  Saina Nehwal drops to 3rd spot in world rankings
i. Indian ace Saina Nehwal was today displaced from the top spot in badminton world rankings, slipping to third in the latest women’s singles list.
ii. Saina, the first Indian woman badminton player to be world number one, dropped two spots and is placed below Spaniard Carolina Marin (80752), who rose a rung courtesy her Australian Open title triumph.
iii. Olympic champion Li Xuerui claimed the top spot.
