1. Apurvi Chandela wins gold medal at National Shooting Championship
i. Apurvi Chandela from Rajasthan has won a Gold medal in the 59th National Shooting Championship in Delhi.
ii. She won the gold medal in 10-metre Air Rifle event in women’s category by shooting 207.8 score in the finals. She was followed by Geetakshi Dixit (Rajasthan) at second spot and Anjum Moudgil (Haryana) at third spot. 
iii. Winners of other Categories Men’s 50-metre Rifle 3 Positions event: Chain Singh (Indian Army) won the gold medal. Gagan Narang (Air India) won the Silver medal. 
iv. Junior men’s 25m sports pistol: Achal Pratap Singh Grewal (Gold), Gurmeet Singh (Silver), Aadeithya Johal (Bronze). 
v. Junior women’s 10m air rifle: Geetakshi Dixit (Gold), Prachi Pramod Gadkari (Silver) and Nupur Hagawane Patil (Bronze). 
vi. Youth: Nupur Hagawane Patil (Gold), Ayushi Podder (Silver) and Manini Kaushik (Bronze).

2. Arun Kumar Jain appointed as Chairman of CBDT

i. Senior revenue service officer Arun Kumar Jain appointed Chairman of Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). His appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
ii. Mr Jain is Indian Revenue Services (IRS) officer of a 1978 batch. Prior to this appointment he was serving as acting Chairman of the board following superannuation of Anita Kapur on November 30, 2015.
iii.  He will have short tenure of two months as Chairman of CBDt till January 2016. Presently, he is also holding additional charge of Member (Personnel and Vigilance) in the CBDT.

3. Saudi Arabia announces 34 nations Islamic coalition to fight terrorism
i. Saudi Arabia has launched Islamic Military Coalition, a new military alliance of 34 nations mainly Muslim nations to fight terrorism.
 ii. It has been established in pursuance of the objectives and principles of the charter of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). It calls for all member states to cooperate to combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
iii. The joint operations centre of the coalition will be established in the Saudi capital, Riyadh. 
iv. The coalition includes nations with large and established armies such as Turkey, Pakistan and Egypt as well as war-torn countries such as Libya and Yemen. 
v. Member nations: Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Jordan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bahrain, Turkey, Benin, Togo, Chad, Djibouti, Tunisia, Sudan, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Gabon, Somalia, Guinea, Comoros, Palestine,  Qatar, Kuwait, Cote d’Ivoire, Lebanon, Maldives, Libya, Mali, Malaysia, Egypt, Morocco, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Yemen. 
vi. The establishment of coalition comes amid international pressure on the Gulf Arab states to do more in the fight against so-called Islamic State. The new alliance will co-ordinate efforts against extremists in Iraq, Syria, Libya, Egypt and Afghanistan. 

4. Rory McIlroy bagged European Tour Golfer of the Year award

i. Rory McIlroy was named the European Tour Golfer of the Year. He received the award for the third time in four years.
ii. McIlroy bagged the European Tour Golfer of the Year award after a panel consisting of members of the golfing media unanimously voted for him as the 2015 winner.
iii. Previously, McIlroy was named the European Tour Golfer of the Year in 2014 and 2012.

5. World Bank approved 1.5 billion US dollar loan to support Clean India Campaign
i. The World Bank approved a 1.5 billion US dollar loan for the ambitious Clean India Campaign (Swachh Bharat Mission).
ii.  The loan was granted to support the government in its efforts to ensure all citizens in rural areas have access to improved sanitation and end the practice of open defecation by 2019.
iii. The loan will be used for Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) Support Operation Project.

6. Supreme Court appointed Virendra Singh as Lokayukta of Uttar Pradesh

i. The Supreme Court on 16 December 2015 appointed a retired judge Justice Virendra Singh as Uttar Pradesh’s Lokayukta or anti-corruption ombudsman. A bench of Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice NV Ramana examined a list of five nominees and ordered for the appointment right away.
ii. It is the first time that the apex court exercised its powers to appoint a Lokayutka, after repeated orders to the state that it must appoint a new person in the position.  The Uttar Pradesh Government had given the present Lokayukta, Justice NK Mehrotra, multiple extensions, after his term ended more than a year ago.
iii. Besides, the top court censured the inability of the constitutional authorities in the state to make the appointment despite various reminders and directions of the court.
iv. Before the appointment of Justice Singh, the selection committee made up of Akhilesh Yadav, Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court DY Chandrachud and Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly Swami Prasad Maurya had failed to agree on a name for a new Lokayukta.
v. The Supreme Court had first issued the order for the appointment of the Lokayukta in April 2014 when it gave six months to the state government for selecting of new incumbent of Lokayukta Justice Mehrotra.

7. Google’s Sundar Pichai unveils plans for India
i. Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced that the company will build new campus and ramp up engineering presence in Hyderabad to make products for India. He addressed the Google for India event in New Delhi.
ii. Google will help women from three lakh villages across the country to get online in three years. Also, Google’s rail wi-fi is coming up at Mumbai Central in January 2016.
