1. Senior journalist Aroon Tikekar passes away
i. Senior journalist and scholar Aroon Tikekar passed away in Mumbai, Maharashtra. He was 72. 
ii. He was associated with different various newspaper groups and has authored over 20 books.

2. Maharashtra government inks MoU with Tata Trust for skill training of youth
i. Maharashtra Government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Tata Trust for a skill training programme for the youth in the state.
ii. This programme has been undertaken under the state government’s ambitious Kushal Maharashtra, Rojgaryukt Maharashtra initiative.
iii. Tata Trust will train around one lakh youths in the state in order to make them employable. 
iv. It will set up skill development and vocational training centres in 10 districts across the state. The Trust will also set up virtual classrooms in 100 Industrial.

3. Bihar Government approves 35 per cent job reservation for women
i. Bihar Government has formally approved 35 per cent reservation for women in government jobs in the state. Decision in this regard was taken by state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in Patna. 
ii. This 35 per cent reservation for women will be applicable to in all government jobs including reserved and unreserved category. Presently state is already providing 35 percent reservation for women in recruitment as police constables and sub-inspectors. 
iii. There is also 50 percent reservation for women as primary school teachers and in the Panchayati Raj system.

4. India ranks 89th in Global Talent Competitiveness Index 2015-16
i. India has ranked 89th globally in Global Talent Competitiveness Index (GTCI) 2015-16 list of 106 assessed countries in terms of talent competitiveness of its human capital.
ii. This GTCI list was compiled by INSEAD business school in partnership with Adecco and Human Capital Leadership Institute of Singapore (HCLI). This index measures a nation’s competitiveness based on the quality of talent it can produce, attract and retain.

5. Indian driver Jehan Daruvala won Lady Wigram Trophy motor rac
i. Sahara Force India Academy racer Jehan Daruvala won one of New Zealand's most prestigious events, the Lady Wigram Trophy.
ii. It was Daruvala’s maiden victory in Formula cars since making the switch from karting in 2015.
iii. In August 2015, Daruvala won Rookie of the Year at the Formula Renault 2.0 NEC series championships in the Netherlands.

6. PSLV-C31 successfully launched IRNSS-1E satellite
i. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on 20 January 2016 successfully launched the Indian Regional Navigational Satellite System (IRNSS) 1-E satellite. The satellite will provide navigation, tracking and mapping services to the Indian sub continent.
ii. The satellite is the fifth of the IRNSS constellation. It was launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SHAR), Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh on-board the PSLV-C31.
iii. The Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV)-C31 was the 32nd consecutively successful mission of the PSLV. The 'XL' configuration of PSLV was used for this mission.

7. Union Government sanctioned 33000 crore rupees for infrastructure projects in Tamilnadu
i. Union Government on 19 January 2016 sanctioned 33000 crore rupees for the development of infrastructure projects in Tamilnadu.
ii. Union Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari announced the sanctioned amount and at his discretion, he announced additional 17000 crore rupees. With this, the total amount sanctioned was raised to 50000 crore rupees.
iii. The infrastructure projects include construction of Rail-Over-Bridges, upgradation of state highways into National Highways and major bridges in the state.

8. IBPS releases calendar for bank recruitment exams in 2016
i. The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) has released tentative schedule for Common Written Examination (CWE) - VI for recruitment to officers and clerical posts in various public sector banks.
ii. All most all public sector banks, except State Bank of India, are conducting recruitment through IBPS.
iii. As per the calendar, the preliminary examination for probationary officers/management trainees will be held in three phases on October 16, 22 and 23, 2016 while the main examination will be held on November 11, 2016.
iv. The preliminary examination for clerks will be held during November 26 - December 4, 2016 and the main examination will be conducted on December 31, 2016 and Jan 1, 2017. The tests for specialists’ category posts will be on Jan 28-29, 2017.
v. Detailed notifications for each of the above examinations will be made in due course, IBPS Director said in a notification hosted on its portal.

9. Mamta Binani elected President of ICSI
i. Mamta Binani has been elected President of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) for 2016. She took charge on January 19.
ii. A commerce and law graduate and a fellow member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India, Binani was the all-India topper in the Intermediate examinations of The Institute of Company Secretaries of India, amongst all the lady candidates in India and had ranked 14th on an all-India basis.
iii. In the final examinations, she stood all-India first in the subject 'Company Law'. She has been practising as a Company Secretary for over 19 years now.
iv. Binani has been an empanelled trainer with ICICI Bank, and also with the mutual fund industry. She is also associated with the financial sector, the education sector, and is an experienced mentor and counsellor to young professionals and students. She also serves as an independent director on a few of the boards.
v. She has been the Chairperson of the Eastern India Regional Council of The Institute of Company Secretaries of India in 2010.Binani was also the first CS to be conferred the 'Bharat Nirman Awards' in 2010.
