1. Pulitzer winning composer Leslie Bassett passes away
i. Pulitzer winning composer Leslie Bassett passed away on 4 February 2016 in Oakwood, Georgia. He was 93.

ii. As a master composer he was known for his lush sonorities and ecumenical instrumentation and for compositions of coaxing a vast range of tonal colours from the bits of wood and brass.

2. Harinder Sidhu appointed as new Australian High Commissioner to India
i. Indian-origin Harinder Sidhu has been appointed as Australian High Commissioner to India. She replaces outgoing High Commissioner Patrick Suckling.
ii. She is second envoy from Australia with Indian roots after Peter Varghese who had ancestral roots to southern Indian state of Kerala.

3. Karnataka Mobile One m-governance model wins gold at World Government Summit
i. Karnataka’s flagship mobile-one governance application has won gold medal at the fourth World Government Summit in Dubai, UAE in the m-governance awards category.

4. Wipro buys HealthPlan Services
i,India’s third largest IT exporter Wipro Limited has acquired US based healthcare technology firm HealthPlan Services for US 460 million dollars.

ii. This acquisition was part of the Wipro’s traditional “string of pearls” acquisition strategy and it shall help company to strengthen its position in the US health insurance market.
iii.It will help Wipro to participate in the shift of the US health insurance industry towards a customer-centric business model as it has currently has a US 800 million dollars healthcare and life sciences business.
iv. This is Wipro’s overall 4th acquisition in the in calendar year 2015 after it had bought Denmark-based Designit, German IT consulting firm Cellent AG and US-based Viteos Group.

5. Railway Ministry launches 3 IT enabled apps
i. The Union Ministry of Railways has launched 3 IT (Information Technology) enabled apps to bring transparency in Indian Railways on the sidelines of Digital India initiative.

ii. These app projects were launched by Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu at through Video-Conferencing from Rail Bhawan at a function held in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

6. Indian-origin lawyer Davinder Singh named vice-chairman of ICC commission
i. Indian-origin lawyer Davinder Singh (58) has been named as Vice-Chairman of International Chamber of Commerce Commission (ICC) on Corporate Responsibility and Anti-corruption. 
ii. Mr. Singh is one of top Indian-origin lawyer in Singapore. Currently he is chief executive of the Singapore based law firm Drew & Napier. He was member of Singapore Parliament from 1988-2006.

7. India, UAE ink 9 bilateral agreements for cooperation in various sectors 
i. India and United Arab Emirates (UAE) have signed 9 bilateral agreements covering cooperation in the various sectors. 
ii. These agreements were signed during the second day of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi official visit to India.
iii. MoU on Technical Cooperation in Cyber Space and Combating Cyber Crime
iv. MoU for Participation institutional investors in Infrastructure Investments

8. World's Largest Solar Plant Opened In Morocco
i. The world's Largest solar plant was launched in the Souss-Massa-Drâa area in Morocco.
ii. It is the part of Noor Ouarzazate solar complex which will produce energy for more than one million Moroccan households on completion by 2018. 
iii. It will also reduce carbon emissions by an estimated 760000 tons per year.
iv. The entire project will be implemented in  three phases involving construction of Noor I (160MW), Noor II (200MW) and Noor III (150MW) in each phase.
v. The World Bank partially financed construction of the plant through a 97 million US dollar loan from the Clean Technology Fund.

9. Amazon To Invest In Westland ( A Tata Group Company )
i. Ecommerce company Amazon has made an investment in Westland, a Trent Ltd subsidiary ( Tata Group ) in support of its publishing business. 
ii. The investment will help to expand its international  reach and scale its physical and digital book businesses.
iii. Westland had also signed a two-month exclusive deal with Amazon to sell the book through its online platform.

10 India ranked 37 in USSC’s 2016 Intellectual Property Index
i. India ranked 37 out of the 38 economies surveyed in the 2016 Intellectual Property Index (IPI). The index was released by the Global Intellectual Property Centre (GIPC) of the United States Chamber of Commerce (USCC).

ii. Out of the 38 economies surveyed, while the USA topped in terms of intellectual property protection by securing 28.61 points out of 30,Venezuela was at the bottom of the index.

11. UP Land Revenue Act, 2015 came into effect
i. The Uttar Pradesh (UP) Land Revenue Act, 2015 became effective. The new code that unifies many Acts replaced at least 39 old land revenue acts.
ii. The new revenue act also replaced the pre and post British era British era Land Revenue Act of 1901 and Zamindari Abolition and Land Reform Act 1950.

12. Soviet football legend Anatoli Ilyin passed away
i. Soviet football legend Anatoli Ilyin passed away in Moscow, Russia. He was 84.
ii. Ilyin was the scorer of the first ever UEFA European Championship qualifying goaland the strike that earned the Soviet Union Olympic gold in 1956.
iii. The legendary footballer won five Soviet Top League titles and two Soviet Cups during a club career spent at home-town Spartak Moskva. He was the league's top scorer in 1954 and 1958, and in all managed 106 goals during a 13-year playing career.
