1. Ex-DRDO DG Dr Avinash Chander awarded Aryabhata Award
Ex-DRDO DG Dr Avinash Chander awarded Aryabhata Award
i. Former DRDO Director-General (DG) Dr Avinash Chander has been awarded prestigious Aryabhata Award of Astronautical Society of India.
ii. He was bestowed with this award in recognition for his contribution to missile technology. 
iii. He was presented with this award from Dr R Chidambaram, Principal Scientific Adviser to Union Government, and Dr A S Kiran Kumar, Chairman ISRO.

2. Mumbai wins Ranji Trophy 2016
i. Mumbai has won the Ranji Trophy for a season 2015-16 by defeating Saurashtra. With this victory, Mumbai clinched Ranji title for record 41st time (10 of them being won with innings wins) after playing in record 45 finals.
ii.  In the final match played a Gahunje Stadium of Maharashtra Cricket Association in Pune, Mumbai defeated Saurashtra by 21 runs. Shreyas Iyer of Mumbai was declared man of the match for his 117 runs in the match. 
iii. He ended the season as the leading run-getter with 1321 runs at 73.38 including four centuries and seven fifties. Mumbai pacer Shardul Thakur also played important role in victory of team by taking five wickets for 26 runs in 13.2 overs.

3. Gianni Infantino elected as President of FIFA
i. Gianni Infantino (45) of Switzerland has been elected as new President of Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), a global governing body of football. 
ii. He was declared winner after winning a second-round vote by securing 115 of the 207 eligible votes in the 2016 FIFA Extraordinary Congress held in Zurich, Switzerland. 
iii. He defeated Sheikh Salman of Bahrain who got 88 votes followed by Prince Ali of Jordan had four and Jerome Champagne of France got zero votes. With this victory, Infantino becomes just the third President of FIFA after Sepp Blatter who headed it for 40 years from 1974 to 2015 and his predecessor João Havelange.

4. 13th World Spice Congress begins in Ahmedabad
i. The 13th edition of World Spice Congress (WSC) will begin in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The theme of the three-day biennial event is ‘Target 2020: Clean, Safe and Sustainable Supply Chain’. 
ii. 13th WSC has been jointly organized by the Spices Board, Cochin Hill Produce Merchants’ Association, and India Pepper and Spice Trade Association.
iii.  It is supported by All India Spices Importers & Distributors Association and Indian Spices & Foodstuff Exporters’ Association. It seeks to chalk out a credible and actionable road map to push further the growth of spices industry and address challenges faced by it across the globe. 
iv. This edition of event will be attended by more than one thousand participants including domestic and overseas delegate, sponsors and exhibitors.

5. ISRO to set up Satellite Centre for in ASEAN countries in Vietnam
ISRO to set up Satellite Centre for in ASEAN countries in Vietnam
i. Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is working to establishment of a Satellite Tracking & Data Reception Station and Data Processing Facility for ASEAN Member countries in Vietnam.
ii.  ISRO will set up this satellite centre at the behest of Union Government as part of Space Cooperation between India and Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN).
iii.  This information was provided by the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh in a reply to an unstarred question in Lok Sabha.

6. India, UK institutions ink agreement for collaboration in Crop Sciences
i. Department of Biotechnology in the Union Ministry of Science and Technology has signed a MoU with a consortium of top United Kingdom (UK) research institutions for joint India-UK collaboration programme in crop science.
ii.  The consortium UK research institutions included representatives from Cambridge based National Institute for Agricultural Botany (NIAB), John Innes Centre, Norwich based University of East Anglia and Rothamsted Research Institute.

7. Economic survey predicts 7 to 7.75% GDP growth for 2016-17
i. India’s Economic Survey has predicted a GDP growth of 7 to 7.75 per cent in 2016-17. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley presented the Economic Survey in Parliament. 
ii. The Survey for 2015-16 presents an optimistic picture of the national economy amidst a volatile international economic environment.
iii. It says the government will meet its fiscal deficit target of 3.9 per cent of GDP.Inflation will ease between 4.5 to 5 per cent in 2016-17. The Current Account Deficit is likely to be in a low range of 1 to 1.5 per cent. 
iv. The Survey underlined that the country’s economic growth is amongst the highest in the world. The report said the increase in wages as recommended by the 7th Pay Commission is unlikely to destabilise prices and will not impact on inflation.

8. Gianni Infantino elected FIFA President
i. Gianni Infantino of Switzerland has become the new President of FIFA after winning a second-round vote in Zurich. 
ii. Infantino got 115 of the 207 eligible votes to take a decisive majority ahead of Sheikh Salman of Bahrain. Sheikh Salman got 88 votes after being the front-runner during the four-month campaign. Prince Ali of Jordan had four, and Jerome Champagne of France got zero votes. This is what Mr. Gianni said after being elected.
