1. Singer-songwriter Dan Hicks passes away

i. Renowned American singer-songwriter Dan Hicks passed away after a two-year long battle with throat and liver cancer. He was 74. 
ii. He was known for his traditional mix of folk, jazz and country music. He was known as the frontman of the acoustic band Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks.

2.  PM Narendra Modi inaugurates NISER campus in Odisha

i. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the permanent campus of National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) in Jatani near Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

ii. NISER has been established on the lines of IISc Bangalore and its five sister institutions IISERs that are being established at Pune, Kolkata, Mohali, Thiruvananthapuram and Bhopal. 
iii. Unlike the IISERs, which are governed by the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development (HRD), NISER operates under the umbrella of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE). 
iv. The primary objective of NISER is to train and nurture human resources in the field of Sciences for the knowledge economies of the future.

3. Paper waste turned into non-toxic green Aerogel for first time

i. For the first time, scientists from National University of Singapore (NUS) have successfully converted paper waste into green nontoxic cellulose aerogels. Aerogels are among the lightest solid materials in the world and are also one of the finest insulation materials available. 
ii. Green Aerogels are ultra-light, non-toxic, extremely strong, flexible and water repellent. It is obtained by converting paper waste into biodegradable Aerogels which is a simple, cost-effective and fast method.

4. Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicates Paradip Oil Refinery to nation

i. Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated Indian Oil Corporation’s (IOC’s) new state of the art refinery at Paradip in Odisha to the nation. 
ii. It is overall IOC’s 11th refinery to be set up and has installed capacity of 15 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA).

5. ICC suspended Pakistan's leg-spinner Yasir Shah for doping offence

i. International Cricket Council (ICC) suspended Pakistan’s leg-spinner Yasir Shah for three months after he tested positive for a banned substance, chlortalidone. 
ii. The 29-year-old Yasir was suspended from Cricket after he pleaded guilty to breaching the ICC's Anti-Doping Code that relates to the presence of a banned substance in a player's sample.

6. The Revenant director Alejandro Gonzalez won Directors Guild of America award 2015

i. The Revenant director Alejandro Gonzalez was on received his second consecutive Directors Guild of America (DGA) award for best feature film at the 68th annual DGA Awards.

ii. Previously he won the same award for the movie Birdman which went on to win three Oscars for best picture, original screenplay and director.

7. NASA to launch its new rocket Space Launch System carrying 13 CubeSats in 2018

i. The US space agency NASA announced that the first flight of its new rocket, the Space Launch System (SLS), carrying 13 CubeSats and an uncrewed Orion Spacecraft will be launched in 2018. 
ii. These small satellites secondary payloads will carry science and technology investigations, which will help in paving the way for future human exploration in deep space, including the journey to Mars. These payloads were selected through a NASA challenge and negotiations with NASA’s international partners.

8. First joint tactical exercise Sino-India Cooperation 2016 held in Chusul-Moldo area along LoAC

i. India and China on held first joint tactical military exercise Sino-India 2016.
ii. The one-day long exercise was held in Chusul-Moldo area that is located along the Line of Actual Control (LoAC) in the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir.
