1. 24 October is celebrated as United Nations Day since 1948.

2. In one of the biggest upheaval in the corporate sector, the Tata Sons Board has appointed Ratan Tata as the interim chairman of the group, replacing Cyrus Mistry.

3. The Indo-Tibetan Border Police celebrated its 55th raising day on 24 October. 

4. A team from the Indian Army's Gorkha Rifles has won a gold medal at one of the most gruelling exercises in the world. 

5. Randeep Guleria, Head of Pulmonology from the AIIMS and C S Yadav, department of orthopaedics from the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital have been selected for the prestigious Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy Award for excellence in the field of medicine.

6. Tom Hayden, a 1960s anti-war activist and one of the era's most prominent, counter-culture radicals who went on to serve in the California state assembly and senate, has died aged 76. 

7. Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton (England) has won the 2016 United States Grand Prix
