1. Parliament passes Persons with Disabilities Bill, 2016
i. The Parliament has passed Rights of Persons with Disabilities Bill, 2016 after it was passed by the Lok Sabha. The bill aims at securing and enhancing the rights and entitlements of persons with disabilities (PwDs).
ii.  It also gives effect to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and related matters signed by India in 2007.
iii. The bill defines disability based on an evolving and dynamic concept. The types of disabilities have been increased from existing seven to 21.
iv.  It includes mental illness, autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, chronic neurological conditions. It also empowers Union Government to add more types of disabilities to list.

2. Government to deploy 600 young professionals to boost Swachh Bharat
i.  Union Government is going to deploy 600 young professionals as Zila Swachh Bharat Preraks (ZSBPs), one in each district across the country to boost Swachh Bharat Abhiyan for a period of one year.

3. Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation awarded Digital India Silver Award
i. The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation in Tamil Nadu has been selected for Digital India Silver Award instituted by the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
ii. It will receive award in the category of “Most Innovative Citizen Engagement” and also for installing and implementing free WiFi Scheme in its various offices.

4. ICFA presents ‘Global Agriculture Leadership Award 2016’ to Ratan Tata
i. Tata Sons interim Chairman Ratan Tata was presented with the prestigious ‘Global Agriculture Leadership Award 2016’ of the Indian Council of Food and Agriculture (ICFA).
ii.  He was conferred with this award for his transformational role in scaling Tata Group as the globally admired group during his stint of two decades as Chairman.

5. Pakistani cinema owners to lift self-imposed ban on Indian films
i. The Pakistan Film Exhibitors Association has lifted the self-imposed ban on the screening of Indian films screening Indian films from December 19.
ii. Announcing the decision, association chairman Zoraiz Lashari said that cinema owners in Pakistan would begin screening Indian films from December 19.

6. Gujarat govt claims 66% success ratio for past seven VGGS summits
i. Ahead of the eighth edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2017 that begins on January 10, the state government claimed a 66% success ratio for the past seven editions.
ii. According to J N Singh, chief secretary, Government of Gujarat, so far 51,738 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) or investment intentions were signed, from the first edition in 2003 to the latest seventh edition in 2015.

7. Goa, Paris most searched tourist spots

i. With the year coming to an end, Google has found Goa was the most searched holiday destination in India, while Shimla emerged as the favourite hill station in 2016 for domestic travellers.
ii. Paris was the most favoured international destination for Indian holiday-makers during 2016, the Internet search giant has said.

8. City corporation to receive Digital India Silver Award
i. i. The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation in Tamil Nadu has been selected for Digital India Award instituted by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
ii. The corporation will receive the Digital India Silver Award in the category of "Most Innovative Citizen Engagement" and also installing and implementing free WiFi Scheme in its various offices.

9. Rajasthan launches Amma canteen-type meal scheme
i. Rajasthan government has launched a subsidised meal scheme ‘Annapurna Rasoi'.  As per the scheme, the poor and the needy will get breakfast for Rs 5 and lunch or dinner for Rs 8.
ii. The scheme will be in 12 cities initially and introduced across the state later. Initially, the scheme has been launched in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, Ajmer, Bikaner, Udaipur, Bharatpur, Baran, Banswara, Dungarpur, Pratapgarh and Jhalawar.

10. Award for regional rural bank
i. i. The Dharwad-headquartered Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank has bagged two awards for inclusive insurance from Skoch Group for 2016.
ii. The bank bagged the awards in life insurance and micro insurance sectors under the order of merit category.
