1. Government to set up single tribunal to arbitrate inter-State water disputes
i. The Union Government has decided to set up a single permanent Tribunal to adjudicate all inter-State river water disputes.
ii. This single body will subsume all existing tribunals for resolving grievances of inter-State water disputes in a speedy manner. It will be headed by a retired Supreme Court judge.
2. Union Government forms high-level task force on Indus Water Treaty
i. The Union government has formed a high-level inter-ministerial task force to look into all the strategic aspects of Indus Water Treaty (IWT) with Pakistan.
ii. Mandate of Task force is to take all important strategic and policy decisions. Thus, it will be an all-powerful body which will take decisions regarding the treaty.
3. AYUSH Ministry launches Swasthya Raksha Programme
i. The Union AYUSH Ministry has launched ‘Swasthya Raksha Programme’ to promote health and health education in villages.
ii. The programme was initiated through Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH), Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM) and Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS).
iii. It was launched by AYUSH Ministry in October 2015.
4. World’s first Goat with superfine wool cloned in China
i. The world’s first cloned goat bearing superfine Cashmere wool was born in north China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
ii. The goat will be raised in a base for animal husbandry research conducted by experts from agricultural universities in southwest China’s Yunnan Province and Inner Mongolia.
5. Union Power Ministry to launch GARV-II Mobile App to monitor rural electrification programme
i. The Union Power Ministry is going to launch new mobile application GARV-II to provide real time data of all six lakh villages of the country.
ii. The purpose of the mobile application is to ensure transparency in implementation of rural electrification programme.
6. Telecom Ministry to launch Tarang Sanchar portal check radiation compliance of mobile towers
i. The Department of Telecom (DoT) will soon launch ‘Tarang Sanchar’ portal that will let users check radiation compliance status of mobile towers and transmitters across country.
ii. Using this portal user can also request to get a particular BTS tested by DoT to assess its electro-magnetic frequency (EMF) compliance level.
7. Union Government mulls merger of cyber, telecom dispute appeals tribunals
i. The Union Government is planning to merge Cyber Appellate Tribunal (CyAT) and with the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) into single larger entity to avoid identical and overlapping functions.
ii. CyAT adjudicates matters related to information technology. Whereas, TDSAT adjudicate disputes and dispose of appeals with a view to protect the interests of service providers and consumers of the telecom sector to promote and ensure orderly growth of the telecom sector.
8. Jammu and Kashmir has no sovereignty: SC
i. The Supreme Court in a landmark verdict held that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India and did not enjoy sovereign status, either under its constitution or that of India.
9. India, Tajikistan ink four agreements
i. India and Tajikistan have signed four agreements in areas including on double taxation avoidance, money laundering and counter-terrorism.
10. Asia Pacific nations adopt New Delhi Declaration for Urban Plus approach
i. The sixth edition of Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference on Housing and Urban Development (APMCHUD) held in New Delhi has adopted New Delhi declaration to adopt Urban Plus approach.
11. Himachal Pradesh becomes sixth in India to attain 100% Aadhaar saturation
i. Himachal Pradesh became sixth state/UT in the Country to achieve 100 percent Aadhar saturation on the basis of population of year 2015.
ii. Earlier, Delhi, Telangana, Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh have achieved this milestone.
12. India’s first Transgender School to be inaugurated in Kochi
i. India’s first transgender school will be inaugurated at Sahaj International School in Kochi, Kerala on December 30, 2016 by transgender rights activist and artist Kalki Subramaniam.
ii. The purpose of this school is to provide transgenders security, salvation and sustainability. The school will provide education and examination equivalent to Class X and XII.
iii. The students will be selected from different sections of the transgender community itself, which includes a disabled person and a migrant.
13. Air Marshal BS Dhanoa appointed Air Chief of IAF
i. The Union Government has appointed Air Marshal Birender Singh Dhanoa as the next Chief of the Air Staff of the Indian Air Force (IAF).
ii. He succeeds Arup Raha who retires on December 31, 2016. Prior to this appointment he was Vice-Chief of IAF. He is the third person from Sikh community to head the IAF after Arjan Singh and Dilbag Singh.
14. Rio Olympics 2016 top searched topic this year
i. Extending unprecedented support to the Indian contingent this year, the country moved beyond Cricket, as Rio Olympics 2016 emerged as the most searched topic, according to the 'Year Recap of Trending Stories' by Google India.
ii. Indian women athletes who stole the show at the gala event with their spectacular performances topped the charts with Badminton star and Olympic medallist PV Sindhu and gymnast Dipa Karmakar bagging the 2nd and 4th spots respectively in the 'Overall Trending Personality' searches.
15. India clinches Hockey Junior World Cup
i. Home favourites India produced a clinical performance to outclass maiden finalists Belgium 2-1 and clinched their second Hockey Junior World Cup title.
ii. Gurjant Singh (eighth minute) and Simranjeet Singh (22nd) scored the two goals for India, who had won their previous title in 2001.
iii. Belgium scored their goal at the death via Fabrice van Bockrijck at the Major Dhyan Chand Stadium.
16. Karun Nair makes history with a triple ton
i. Karun Nair became the second Indian batsmen to score a triple century after Virender Sehwag. With the Chennai fans roaring behind him, Karun Nair completed his triple ton and made history at MA Chidambaram Stadium.
ii. Interestingly, Sehwag scored two triple centuries viz. 319 in Chennai and 309 in Multan.
iii. Karun Nair became the third player in Test history, and the first Indian, to turn his maiden hundred into a triple century. He continued to torment the England bowlers after the dismissal of Murali Vijay and Ravichandran Ashwin.
17. Indian Navy chief in Tokyo on five-day visit to Japan
i. Navy chief Admiral Sunil Lanba has reached Tokyo on a five-day visit to Japan. The visit is aimed at consolidating the existing Maritime Cooperation initiatives as well as exploring new avenues.
ii. During the visit, Admiral Lanba will hold discussions with Chief of Staff, Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force, Minister of State for Defence and other Senior dignitaries and Naval Officers.
18. Kyrgyzstan President on 4-day visit to India
i. President of Kyrgyzstan, Almazbek Sharshenovich Atambayev arrived in Delhi this afternoon on a four day state visit to India.
ii. President Atambayev is leading a high-level delegation comprising of ministers, senior officials and business leaders. This is his first visit to India as President.
