1. Long range nuclear-capable subsonic cruise missile Nirbhay testfired
i. Long range nuclear-capable subsonic cruise missile Nirbhay was testfired from the launch complex 3 of the Integrated Missile Test Range in Balasore, Odisha.
ii. The test was conducted by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

2. Union Cabinet approves creation of Indian Enterprise Development Services
i.  The Union Cabinet gave its approval to the Cadre review and formation of a new service in the name of Indian Enterprise Development Services (IEDS). Decision in this regard was taken by the Union Cabinet meeting presided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.

3. India surpasses Britain to become world’s sixth-largest economy: Forbes magazine

i. According to report published in Forbes magazine, India has surpassed its colonial masters United Kingdom to become world’s sixth-largest economy in GDP terms for first time after nearly 150 years.
ii. Following the change in the rankings, India’s economy now stands behind the United States, China, Japan, Germany and France.

4. Molten Jet Stream discovered deep inside Earth’s core

i. Scientists for the first time have discovered the so-called molten jet stream within the Earth’s molten iron core using latest data obtained from three European satellites called Swarm. The three satellites were launched in 2013 with the goal of studying Earth’s magnetic field.
ii. The latest satellite data that helps create an sharpest ‘x-ray’ view of the planet.

5. Researchers develop first Chikungunya Vaccine
i. Researchers from United States have developed the first vaccine for Chikungunya fever made from an insect-specific Eilat virus.
ii. The newly-developed vaccine does not have any effect on people, which makes it safe and effective for humans. Its clinical trials on mice and non-human primates show that it quickly produces a strong immune defence and completely protects them from disease when exposed to the chikungunya virus.

6. India ranks 4th in 2016 Global Wind Power Installed Capacity Index
i. India ranked 4th in the Global Wind Power Installed Capacity index with cumulative installed wind power generation capacity of 25,088 MW in 2015.
ii. The index was released was released as part Global Wind Report: Annual Market, flagship publication of the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC).

7. Pakistan Navy launches live missile from Arabian Sea
i. The frontline combat unit of Pakistan Navy on Wednesday undertook live missile firing in the North Arabian Sea, media reported.
ii. Pakistan Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah witnessed the launch of the surface-to-surface anti-ship missile from sword class frigate PNS Aslat. The missile successfully destroyed its intended target with pinpoint accuracy, Radio Pakistan reported.

8. Jadeja, Ashwin second Indian duo to take top spots among ICC bowlers
i. Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja's career best 10-wicket haul against England in the Chennai Test has helped him vault to the second spot, just behind his top-ranked teammate Ravichandran Ashwin, in the International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings for Test bowlers.

9. Govt announces Rs 207 crore project for protection of Majuli island
i.  i.Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region Dr Jitendra Singh has announced to provide 207 crore rupees for protection and development of the world heritage island Majuli located along river Brahmaputra in Assam.
ii. Largest river island of the world, Majuli district, covers an area of around 340 miles. Nearly 1 lakh 60 thousand people reside at the Majuli river island which is one of the prime tourist's destinations of North East.

10. Flock launches world’s first chat operating system
i.A free instant messaging service for work and business environments, Flock has launched world’s first chat operating system”FlockOS” by Bhavin Turakhia, Flock CEO .
ii.Flockos Developers can build apps by using Flock OS that provided a tightly integrated experience by using widgets. This OS provides setup slash commands, providing an additional option for users to interact with the app.

11. Veteran Malayalam Actor Jagannatha Varma Passes Away at 77.
i. i.Veteran character actor Jagannatha Varma passed away. He was suffering from age-related illness and was in the hospital for the past ew days.
ii.The 77-year-old had acted in close to 200 films and two dozen TV serials in a career spanning close to four decades.
