1. Viral V Acharya appointed as RBI Deputy Governor
i. The Union Government has appointed Viral V Acharya (42) as new Deputy Governor at the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).  He will have regular three-year tenure. 

ii. His appointment was cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.

iii.  He will fill the post that fell vacant after Urjit Patel after he was made RBI Governor to succeed Rajan with effect from September 2016. The existing three Deputy Governors of RBI are S S Mundra, R Gandhi and N S Vishwanathan.

2. Tribal development remains poor: Tribal Ministry report
i. According to recently released annual report of the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs, the tribal population in India lags behind other social groups on various social parameters. 
ii. The tribal population lags in parameters such as child mortality and infant mortality and women’s health, education, poverty etc

3. Kerala to seek Union government’s approval for using deer antlers in Ayurveda medicines
i. The Kerala Government has approached the Union Government for allowing use of antlers of spotted deer and sambar of Ayurveda medicines.
ii.  In this regard, Kerala State Board for Wildlife (SBWL) under chairmanship of CM Pinarayi Vijayan has forwarded proposal to National Board for Wildlife (NBWL) and Ministry of Environment and Forests. 
iii. SBWL is seeking suitable amendments to the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 for using the antlers for medicinal purposes.

4. Union Government gives nod for apex corridor development body
i. The Union Government has approved the re-designation of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor Project Implementation Trust Fund (DMICPTF) as National Industrial Corridor Development & Implementation Trust (NICDIT). 
ii. NICDIT will be the apex body to oversee integrated development of all industrial corridors across the country. It will implement all the five proposed industrial corridors, together covering 15 States.

5. NBWL gives nod to Ken-Betwa Inter-Linking of Rivers Project
i. The National Board for Wildlife (NBWL) has given its clearance for the Ken-Betwa inter-linking of rivers (ILR) project, paving the way to begin work for linking two rivers. 
ii. The clearance of NBWL was required since the project requires diversion of forest land from core area of Panna Tiger Reserve.

6. Rajasthani writer Satya Narayan chosen for 2016 Bihari Puraskar
i. Eminent Rajasthani litterateur Dr Satya Narayan was chosen for the 26th Bihari Puraskar 2016 by the K K Birla Foundation. He was been chosen for his Hindi book titled Yeh Ek Dunia published in 2010. His Yeh Ek Dunia is a meticulous depiction of various circumstances of life in contemporary world.
ii.  In it he has built a model of new creativity and attempts to enter unseen aspects or dimensions, where human experiences and conscience are more important than life situations of contemporary time zone.

7. Astronomers discover universe’s biggest Galaxy Supercluster near Milky Way
i. A team of international astronomers has discovered Vela super cluster, one of the biggest super galaxy clusters near the Milky Way.
ii.  It was spotted by a research team of astronomers from South Africa, Australia and Europe with help slew of telescopes including the Anglo-Australian Telescope (Sydney) and South African Large Telescope (Cape Town).

8. Gujarat government announces Biotechnology Policy 2016
i. Gujarat Government announced its ‘Biotechnology Policy-2016’ to establish state as a preferred destination for manufacturing of biotechnology products. 
ii. The policy has provisions for various incentives for investors who are keen to set up their units in the state. 
iii. It aims to take annual turnover of biotechnology products to Rs 15,000 crore from current f Rs 4,500 crore turn over within next 3-4 years and make Gujarat top state in this sector in the country.

9. Aadhaar-based ID cards for airport employees from January 1
i. In order to beef up security at airports, all employees working at these facilities across the country will have to furnish their Aadhaar number to obtain the mandatory Airport Entry Passes (AEPs) used for entry and exit.
ii. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), the mandated force for civil airports, will implement the measure from January 1 after the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) issued an order in this regard on its request.
