1. India inks deal with UAE for strategic oil reserves storage
i.  India has signed a deal with United Arab Emirates (UAE), fifth biggest oil supplier as part of its quest for energy security and strategic reserve system.
ii. The deal allows UAE’s Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. (ADNOC) to fill half (about 6 million barrels of oil) of an underground crude oil storage facility at Mangaluru, Karnataka

2. India, France sign pact on maritime information sharing in Indian Ocean Region
i. India and France have signed White Shipping agreement to enable information sharing on maritime traffic and maritime domain awareness in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). The agreement was signed in New Delhi after both countries held their second dialogue on maritime cooperation for the IOR.

3. Ashok Amritraj appointed Goodwill Ambassador for UN in India
i. Award-winning Hollywood film producer and Wimbledon tennis player, Ashok Amritraj has been appointed the United Nations in India Goodwill Ambassador for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
ii. Chairman and CEO of the Hyde Park Entertainment Group, Mr. Amritraj is the first Ambassador for the UN in India.

4. Three Indian origin persons awarded Australia’s highest civilian honour
i. Three Indian origin persons have been awarded Australia’s highest civilian honour this year for their contributions in the field of medicine and community work.
ii. Makhan Singh Khangure from Perth was given the award for his service to medicine in the field of neuroradiology, to education, and to a range of professional medical associations.Vijay Kumar, was given the award for his service to medical research in the disciplines of nuclear medicine and biology, to professional organisations, and to the community.
iii. Purushottam Sawrikar, a Sydney-based medical practitioner, received Order of Australia medal for the year 2017 for his service to medicine, and to the Indian community.

5. England beat India by 7 wicket in Kanpur T20
i. England have won the first Twenty 20 International of the 3 match series at Green Park stadium in Kanpur beating India by 7 wickets.
ii. The visitors achieved the target of 148 runs for 3 with 11 balls remaining. Earlier, the hosts made 147 for 7 in the stipulated 20 overs. India have already won the Test series, 4-0, and ODIs, 2-1.

6. 68th Republic Day celebrated on 26 January 2017
i. India celebrated its 68th Republic Day on January 26, 2017 with the theme “Skill India and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao”. The day honours the date on which the Indian Constitution came into force on 26th January, 1950 replacing the Government of India Act, 1935 as the governing document.

7. Government launches Rubber Soil Information System
i. The Union Government has launched Rubber Soil Information System (RubSIS), an online system for recommending appropriate mix of fertilizers to plantations of rubber growers depending upon their soil nature. RubSIS has developed by Rubber Research Institute of India (RRII) under the Rubber Board.

8. Russia, Turkey, Iran agree on mechanism to Monitor Syria Ceasefire
i. Russia, Turkey and Iran have agreed on the establishment of a trilateral mechanism to jointly monitor the ceasefire between the Syrian regime and rebels.

9. India ranks 79 in Corruption Perception Index
i. India has been ranked 79th out of 176 countries in the recently released Corruption Perception Index (CPI) for the year 2016 by the Berlin-based corruption watchdog Transparency International (TI).

10. Japan successfully launches first military communications satellite 
i. Japan has successfully launched its first military communications satellite Kirameki-2 (kee-RAH-meh-kee 2) satellite. It was launched on board of H-2A rocket that lifted off from the Tanegashima Space Center in southern Japan.

11. US President Donald Trump appoints Indian-American Ajit Pai as FCC chairman
i. United States President Donald Trump has appointed Ajit Vardaraj as chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
ii. Pai is the fourth Indian-American to become part of Trump’s administration, following Nikki Haley (US ambassador to UN), Seema Verma (head of medicare and medicaid) and Preet Bharara (US attorney for the southern District of New York).

12. Indian-American attorney Uttam Dhillon appointed to key White House post
i. US President Donald Trump has appointed Indian-American attorney Uttam Dhillon as Special Assistant to the President on ethics and compliance matters, key White House position.

13. US Emmy award-winning actress Mary Tyler Moore passes away
i. Emmy award-winning US actress Mary Tyler Moore passed away at the age of 80. She was best known for her television roles in the 1960s sitcom The Dick Van Dyke Show and the eponymous The Mary Tyler Moore Show in the 1970s.

14. Pankaj Advani wins 7th National Billiards Championship
i. India’s top seeded cueist Pankaj Advani won his seventh National Billiards Championship. In the final match held in Pune (Maharashtra), he defeated Rupesh Shah by 5-1 score. Earlier, in semi-finals, he had defeated Brijesh Damani.

15. Pakistan Falling ICC ODI Ranking
i. Pakistan is sitting in the eighth position with 89 points -- two behind Bangladesh and two ahead of the West Indies. Pakistan is in danger of failing to qualify directly for the 2019 One-Day International (ODI) World Cup in England, according to International Cricket Council's (ICC) latest rankings released on Friday.

16. Aditya Birla Group to invest Rs 7,000 cr in Andhra Pradesh
i. Aditya Birla Group plans to invest Rs 7,000 crore in the next two years in Andhra Pradesh on expanding existing businesses.
