1. India overtook Japan to become the second-largest steel producer in the world after China in 2016, according to data released by the International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF).

2. The Minister of State (I/C) for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan visited Vienna, Austria to co-chair the 2nd India-OPEC Institutional Dialogue at the OPEC headquarters.

3. Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Minister of State (I/C) for Culture and Tourism inaugurated an exhibition “Return of the Three Stone Sculptures from Australia to India” in National Museum, Janpath New Delhi.

6.  Actor Sir Roger Moore, best known for playing James Bond, has died due to cancer aged 89.

7. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has jointly inaugurated the integration of E-Sanad with CBSE’s digital repository ‘Parinam Manjusha’ in New Delhi.

8. The second prototype of the Light Utility Helicopter, LUH PT2, has successfully completed its first flight by flying smoothly for 22 minutes in Bengaluru.

9. Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' resigned on 24 May 2017, barely nine months after coming to power. He announced his resignation during a television address to the nation. Prachanda belongs to the CPN (Maoist Centre) party of Nepal.

10. Union Minister of Culture Mahesh Sharma launched the Swachh Bharat App with an aim to involve people actively to become part of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Movement) in National Museum, Delhi. 

11. Recent analysis of a 3.3-million-year-old hominin fossil has provided researchers with the most complete spinal column of any early human relative.The analysis offers a unique snapshot of a crucial transition point as humans’ early ancestors evolved towards bipedalism.

12. The World Turtle Day 2017 was observed across the world on 23 May 2017 with an aim to protect the turtles and tortoises and their rapidly disappearing habitats across the world. The day was sponsored by American Tortoise Rescue (ATR).

13. Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was conferred the much-desired International Cricketer of the Year award at the CEAT Cricket Rating (CCR) International awards 2017 on 24 May 2017.

14. Kiren Rijiju, the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, unveiled a philosophical novel on God titled “Confessions of a dying mind: The blind faith of atheism,” in New Delhi.The book, touted as world’s first philosophical novel on God, is penned by IAS officer Haulianlal Guite.
