1. India’s biodiversity riches increases by 499 species
i. According to the Animal Discoveries 2016, New Species and Records, brought out by the Zoological Survey of India and Plant Discoveries 2016, by the Botanical Survey of India, 499 new species have been discovered from various parts of the country last year.

2. Vijaya Bank Plans to develop 100 Digital Villages
i. Vijaya Bank has stated that it plans to develop as many as 100 digital villages in various States across the country as part of its initiative to promote digital banking among the rural population. 
ii. At present, Vijaya Bank is the only public sector financial institution to develop digital villages with focus on rural population. Already, the bank has developed 5 villages into Digital Villages.

3. National Board of Wildlife Clears Rutland Island for DRDO’s Missile Testing Project 
i. The National Board of Wildlife has approved Rutland Island in South Andaman to be the site for the country’s long-range missile test facility.
ii. DRDO has been seeking the approval for the test facility since 2012. Taking into account the strategic importance of the project for country’s defence, the Standing Committee of the National Board of Wildlife has approved the project.

4. IMD to release Malaria and Chikungunya Alerts
i. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that it is working on a forecasting system that will give a 15-day warnings on the likelihood of a malaria or chikungunya outbreak across different regions of the country.

5. Habibganj Railway Station to become India’s First Private Railway Station
i. Habibganj railway station in the suburbs of Bhopal will become country’s first railway station to be redeveloped in a public-private partnership (PPP) mode.
ii. On June 9, station redevelopment work in the railway station will be launched by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu. The idea is to develop Habibganj railway station as a as a world-class transit hub equipped with all amenities.

6. India’s first Rural LED Street Lighting Project to be implemented in Andhra Pradesh
i. Government will retrofit 10 lakh conventional street lights with LED lights in Gram Panchayats of 7 districts in Andhra Pradesh. The project will be carried out by the Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) functioning under the Ministry of Power.
ii. This project will be the first rural LED street lighting project under the Government of India’s Street Lighting National Project (SLNP). 
iii.  In the first phase of the project, the districts of Guntur, Prakasham, Nellore, Kurnool, Kadapa, Ananthapur and Chittoor will be covered. The total upfront capital cost of the project would be funded by French Development Agency Agence Française de Développement (AFD).

7. Nepal Signs Agreement for Mega Hydroprojects with Chinese Firm 
i. Nepal has struck a major deal with China Gezhouba Group Corporation (CGGC) for developing a 1,200 MW Budhigandaki Hydroelectric Project, which will be the biggest hydro project in Nepal having  the potential to resolve its perennial power crisis. 
ii. The MoU was signed in the presence of outgoing Prime Minister of Nepal Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Yu Hong.

8. United Nations observes 2017 Russian Language Day
i. The United Nations Russian Language Day was observed on 6 June 2017.
ii. The day is observed annually to maintain the equality of all six official UN languages. These six official languages are English, Arabic, Spanish, Chinese, Russian and French.
iii. The decision to hold days of languages was adopted by the UN Department of Public Information on the eve of the International Mother Language Day, celebrated annually on 21 February, at the initiative of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

9. Govt to appoint Nyaya Mitra to expedite pending cases
i. Union Government will appoint Nyaya Mitras across the country to expedite the cases pending for last 10 years in lower courts.
ii. Addressing a function at Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court to inaugurate the Tele Law Service through Common Service Centers, Union Law and Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad announced that retired judges will be appointed as Nyaya Mitras to expedite the over seven lakh fifty thousand cases pending across the country.

10. Microsoft releases 'Face Swap' app for Android
i. Microsoft has launched a new app called 'Face Swap' that will let users stick their faces onto different scenes and different characters.

11. Energy Efficiency Services Ltd. has initiated a French Agency-funded project to retrofit 10 lakh conventional street lights with LED lights in Gram Panchayats of 7 districts in Andhra Pradesh.

12. Telangana launches single-woman pension scheme, first in India
iTelangana government has recently launched the single-women pensions scheme across the state. Single women will be given Rs 1,000 per month. It is the first such scheme in India.
ii. The government had also increased the Kalyana Laxmi and Shaadi Mubarak scheme amount from Rs50,116 to Rs75,116. Children of single women would be admitted into all Telangana Residential Educational Institutions without having to write an examination or waiting for the lottery system.

13. TRAI launches three new apps
i. Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has recently launched three new apps to help customers rate quality of services, speed and performance.
ii. The three new apps are Mycall app, MySpeed app and 'Do not disturb (DND 2.0)' app. The apps are being launched with the motive that there is more transparency between the consumers and the service providers.
iii. The MyCall app, is an Android application for crowdsourced voice call quality monitoring.
iv.  MySpeed app will enable TRAI to obtain test-data from users in all service areas, without any action by the users. 
v. The DND service app will enable users to register their mobile number under DND to avoid unsolicited commercial communication/telemarketing calls/SMS.
